The Jedi Force Push in college football

The Star Wars movies gave us the Jedi and their mystical powers, a thinly veiled reference to Taoist techniques found in many martial arts. There are many great examples, notably the “Force Push.”

If you think this is just a metaphor or a fantasy, check out Kenjon Barner running for the Oregon Ducks against Arizona State last year. Adjusting his momentum and psychology, he simply raises his hand, throwing an ASU defender to the turf without even touching him.

The entire play is visible on this video clip from a longer highlight reel; the play comes and goes right away, real fast, so reload if you need to see it again. Coming soon: The Tao of Chip (Kelly, Oregon’s former coach, who just jumped to the NFL as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles).
