Drunken Kung Fu

Jackie Chan played it for laughs in his breakout hit “Drunken Master” (1978) but it’s a real cultural tradition that (as you might suspect) does not involve actual drinking.

The history of Zui Quan is steeped in Daoism, going back to the 8 Taoist Immortals who — the story goes — got drunk and started fighting. This is the basis for the 8 styles of fighting depicted in Drunken Master.
